George Gershwin(1898年9月26日 - 1937年7月11日）は20世紀に活躍したアメリカを
代表する作曲家の一人。Jazz, Classic, Pops の世界に数多くの名曲を残した。現在でも彼の作品
を使用したMusical「パリのアメリカ人」が日本でも舞台で上演され,映画「マンハッタン」（1979）では
全編に彼の音楽が使用、ニューヨークのメトロポリタン歌劇場で「ポーギーとべス」が上演されるなど
時代を超えて愛されている。
作品の大部分は兄のIra Gershwin(1896年12月6日 - 1983年8月17日)が作詞しGeshwin兄弟として
活躍しました。
