離宮といえば「桂離宮」がまず思い浮かぶ。
でも「修学院離宮」のほうが、いまと通じる部分が多く、
いま見るべきと思う。
棚田を庭園とする発想。
原発事故のあと、その意味がしみじみ感じられる。
ふと、漫画版『風の谷のナウシカ』が思い出される。

物語のクライマックス。
ナウシカは蟲使いを連れて、「敵」の本拠地へ向かう。
その途中、とある工房に迷い込む。
そこは、腐海ができる前の、自然や文化が残されていた。
工房の番人はナウシカに告げる。
「結局旧時代の人が残すべきと思ったのは、これら自然と文化
だったのだ」と。
修学院離宮は、まさにその「工房」だ。
建物は自然に溶け込むために、どこまでもシンプル。
襖絵などは、俗悪すれすれのリアリズム。
石庭がある寺よりも修学院離宮のほうが、現代のオタクに近いと思う。
棚田に水を運ぶ遊水地に、小島がある。
小島は龍に見立られていて、
その頭の部分に、二本の楓が植えられている。
秋には赤く色づき、龍の角になる設計だ。
アニメ『日本昔ばなし』の龍が、鮮やかによみがえる。
なんてお茶目なんだろう...。

深夜ラジオを聞いていた頃を思い出して、
久しぶりに葉書職人になってみるのも、また楽しい。
"Katsura" villa palace is so famous for the book written by B.Taut.
But,"Shugakuin" is worth seeing, because it is related to the modern
age in Japan.
Especially, the thought, which it combined rice fields as its garden,
is very crucial, after the Fukushima nuclear power station accident
has occured.
It reminds me "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind"(comic version)
written by MIYAZAKI Hayao.
At the end of story, Nausicaa tried to go to the capital of "Enemy".
On that way, she lost her way and entered a "factory".
There are a lot of the nature and culture before the catastrophe.
The guardian of the factory said;
"The ancestors thought only the nature and culture are worth preserving".
"Shugakuin" villa palace is the "factory".
Its architectures are so simple to harmonize with the environment(minimalism).
Its pictures are so realistic to copy the nature(realism).
The point with coexistence of minimalism and realism,
"Shugakuin" is so close to the modern "Otaku" culture, I think.
For examples, an island stands in a big pond which provides the water
to rice fields.
This island was designed as a dragon.
Two maple trees were planted on the island as two horns of the dragon.
In autumn,these trees turn red, to express red horns of the dragon.
That designer's imagination is similar to the modern animator's, I think.
So pretty,indeed.
