10章 主に仕えるエフ―
1．エフーの粛清
エフーによるイスラエルの宗教改革が行われます。それはまず、アハブ一族を根絶やしにすることから始まりました。エフーは、イズレエルを拠点とするアハブ一族を皆殺しにするように、彼らの養育係に通達しています。これに応えてアハブの70人の子が殺されています。エフーの行為は、激しく狂気じみているようにも思われますが、それは、エフー自らも言うように、「私の主に対する熱心さ」の故でした。エフーは、預言者エリシャによって語られたとおり、まさに主君アハブの家の者を打ち殺し、主のしもべである預言者たちの血の復讐をしたのです（9:7）。
2．エフーの矛盾
さらにエフーは、サマリアに住むアハブの家の者を滅ぼしました。それによってアハブが妻イゼベルとともにイスラエルに持ち込んだバアル礼拝、アシュタロテ礼拝を追放し、根絶していくのです。「アハブは少ししかバアルに仕えなかったが、エフーは大いに仕えるつもりである」と、盛大なバアル礼拝を挙行し、バアルの信奉者を皆集め、一挙に殺してしまうのです。エフーがしたことは、ある意味で騙し討ちですが、エフーなりの主に対する熱心さの現れであり、バアルの信奉者たちを徹底的に排除するものとなりました。
ただし、エフーはヤロブアムの罪、つまり金の子牛に仕えることはやめることができませんでした（31節）
エフーの主に対する熱心さは徹底していたようですが、実際には、二心でした。バアルも金の子牛も同じです。彼はまことの主と偶像のいずれかではなく、まことの主と偶像のいずれにも仕えたのです。彼の信仰は矛盾していました。
3．自己矛盾に対する神の取り扱いを受ける
人間は、矛盾した生き物です。ある面では神に熱心でありながら、別の面では全く逆であったりします。ある面では完璧のように見えて、別の面では全く抜けだらけであったりします。かの残虐な独裁者ヒトラーも、子煩悩な、よい親であったと言われるではありませんか。問題は、そのような自己矛盾にも気づかず、信仰の歩みを続けてしまうことでしょう。信仰生活は、自分に気づくことが全てです。自分の心には他人に対する引き下げの心理がある、劣等感がある、神を信じているようでいながら信じていない、そのような自分の無意識の思い込みや偏見に気づいていくことです。そして気づいたら、その修整し難い思い込みや偏見を、自分で何とかしようとせずに、むしろ、神に取り扱っていただき、変えていただくことです。大事なことは、そのような魂を磨くことに熱心にならないキリスト者に成長はありません。祈りに熱心であっても、賛美を声高らかに歌ったとしても、自分自身に向かい合わないキリスト者は、まことの神の恵みを得ることはないでしょう。
信仰を持つことにおいて大切なのは、イエスの弟子になろうと決心するのみならず、気づきのある弟子になることです。ただ弟子になる人は、他の弟子と同じことをするだけで満足してしまいます。しかし、気づきのある弟子は、神と向かい合って、神が自分に語っていることに気づいていく人で、気づいたことに取り組む人です。そのような人であればこそ成長する弟子となるのです。
「いつも学んではいるが、いつになっても真理を知ることのできない者」（2テモテ3:7）の問題は、自分自身に対する気づきがないことです。
そのためには、神に語られたことを忠実に行うと同時に、語られる神に向かい合い、神の光に照らされて自分自身を吟味していくことです（詩篇139:23、24）。神と良き時を過ごすその時が、私たちに霊的な気づきを豊かに与える時とすることです。では、今日もよき一日となるように祈ります。

Chapter 10 Jehu who serves the Lord
1. Purge of Jehu
The Reformation of Israel by Jehu takes place. It started with the extermination of the Ahab clan. Jehu has instructed their tutors to exterminate the Jezreel-based Ahab clan. Seventy of Ahab's sons were killed in response. Jehu's deeds may seem violent and insane, but it was because, as Jehu himself said, "my zeal for my Lord." Jehu killed his lord Ahab's family and avenged the blood of the Lord's servants the prophets, just as was spoken by the prophet Elisha (9:7).
2. Contradiction of Jehu
Jehu also destroyed the family of Ahab, who lived in Samaria. By doing so, the Baal worship and Ashtaroth worship that Ahab brought with his wife Jezebel to Israel will be banished and eradicated. "Ahab served Baal a little, but Jehu will serve him much." What Jehu did was, in a sense, a sneak attack, but it was a manifestation of Jehu's zeal for the Lord, and it resulted in the complete elimination of Baal's followers.
However, Jehu could not forsake the sin of Jeroboam, serving the golden calves (ver. 29).
Jehu's zeal for the Lord seems to have been thorough, but in reality he was double-minded. Baal and the golden calf are the same. He did not choose between the true Lord and the idol, but served both the true Lord and the idol. His beliefs were contradictory.
3. Being dealt with by God for self-contradiction
Humans are contradictory creatures. In some ways we are zealous for God, and in others it is quite the opposite. In some ways it seems perfect, in others it is completely lacking. Isn't it said that the cruel dictator Hitler was a caring and good parent? The problem is that you will not notice such self-contradiction and will continue on with your walk of faith. A life of faith is all about becoming aware of yourself. It is to become aware of our unconscious bias, beliefs and prejudices, such as the mentality of putting others down, the feeling of inferiority, and the fact that we believe in God but do not. And when you realize it, don't try to do something about it yourself, but rather let God deal with it and change it. The important thing is that Christians who do not devote themselves to character-building will never grow. Even though he prays earnestly and sings praises loudly, a Christian who does not turn himself in will not obtain the true grace of God.
The important thing in having faith is not only deciding to be a disciple of Jesus, but being an aware disciple. A person who becomes a disciple is content simply to do the same thing as other disciples. But an aware disciple is one who faces God, becomes aware of what God is saying to them, and works on that awareness. Only such a person can become a growing disciple.
The problem with “always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the turth” (2 Timothy 3:7) is their lack of self-awareness.
To do this, we must be faithful to what God has spoken to us, and at the same time, we must face God who speaks and examine ourselves in the light of God (Psalm 139:23, 24). Let the time of spending good times with God be the time to give us rich spiritual awareness. I hope you have a good day today.
