Chapter 6 Ark of the Covenant of the Lord
1. Ask for the ark of the covenant of the Lord
David became a king and immediately began to build a country. Notably, he began what the first king Saul did not try. So he tried to make the capital Jerusalem a center of worship. So he tries to get the ark of the covenant of his Lord back to Jerusalem.
The ark of the covenant has been forgotten by the Israelites since it was robbed by the Philistines as a loot about 70 years ago. It was once returned to Israel because it caused disaster to Philistines, but the Israelites also hesitated to welcome it and were left in the house of Abinadab on the border of Judah for decades. But now that Jerusalem is the center of worship, the ark of the Lord, which was a symbol of God's presence (Exodus 25:22), must be restored to Jerusalem.ãã
Of course, today there is no ark of the Lord that symbolizes the presence of God. Rather, Jesus said, "For Where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them." (Matthew 18:20), and God said, with or without the symbolic ark of the Lord. Because being with us is God's promise.
2. Carry the Lord's ark
Now, despite David's right intentions, there was a problem when he actually carried the ark of God. He put the ark of God on a new car and moved it, and Uzzah, the person who held the ark of God that was about to turn over on the way, was struck by God and died.
Uzaah, along with Ahio, is a child of the house of Abinadab, where the ark of God was allegedly located. Ahio would have been in front of the ark of God, and Uzzah would have been behind the ark of God. And when Uzaah held down the ark of God, who was about to turn over, he was judged by God. This was a judgment because of the problem of not moving the ark of God correctly, rather than moving the ark of God. It can be said that both David and Uzaah had forgotten even the teaching of how to carry and handle the ark of God because of the long loss of the ark of God. David hesitated to carry the ark of God to Jerusalem for three months. And when he hears that the blessing has been brought to the place where the ark of God was placed, he brings it in again, but at that time he is changing the way he carries it. It was carried by man, as taught in the days of Moses. Perhaps David wondered what was wrong during those three months. And he understood that he would follow the way the Lord had set, not the way he thought it was good.
There is a way for things to be done by the Lord. Today, the most important thing we have to do is God's right way to approach God. In other words, look up at the cross of Christ and approach with repentance and faith in sin. You cannot approach God without Christ. If you approach God in that right way, you can be confident that you have God's blessing.
3. Michal and David
Thus David was able to carry the ark of his Lord to Jerusalem. At that time, David is said to have danced as hard as he could before the Lord. It is believed that it probably used an ancient ritual dance. David also says he took off his royal robe and put on a linen ephod. He acted as a priest. It is probable that this was a special measure for which the priesthood was not decided after Samuel's death. Everything was done with the procedure and spirit as described in the Bible.
However, David's wife, Michal, was chilling at this event. She despised David's respect for God in her heart. For Michal, like Saul, God was unrealistic. She had no God in her heart.
At this time, David is said to have written Psalm 132. In front of the ark of the Lord, David first prays, "O Lord, remember David and all the hardships he endured." God is the one who sees our lives in detail and captures our hearts. God is not a decoration of shrines and temples. God is not the one who exists if we think God exists and does not exist if we think it does not exist. We want to recognize God, the basis of our blessings, and be the one who approaches God correctly. I pray that today will be a good day.
