英作問題『ウクライナ戦争』 War in Ukraine
７．かつてウクライナがソ連の傘下にあった時代に、領内にあるチェルノブイリ原発事故が発生、放射性物質の漏洩、拡散により、周辺地域への甚大な被害があったことは、記憶に新しい。（後半）

放射性物質の漏洩ということだが、通常は、radioactive leak(age)などであるが、
・They use the same energy as the bombs used in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. という説明を加えれば、簡単な英語でも「放射性物質」だとわかる。
単語に制約があっても、適切なキーワードを効果的に使うことで、語彙の不足は補うことができる。
他にも、放射性物質は、具体的には プルトニウムなので、英語でそのまま plutonium （プルトウニウム）という語を使うのもよいだろう。
想像力を駆使して、使えるもの（語）は何でも使うのが、英作、英会話の上達のコツである。
漏洩ということは、中にある物が、外に出ることなので、come out / go out /get out 等を使い
・The dangerous energy went out of the building.
・Radioactive substance got out.
have でもよい。
・They had the dangerous energy outside the building.
拡散するということは、spread を知っていれば
・The radioactive substance got out and spread.
spread は、拡がるという意味で、コロナの文脈でもよく使う。（過去形も同じspread)
・COVID spread first in China. It spread very fast. It spread to many other countries. COVID is spreading around the world. 等。
spread 以外でも考える。
拡散するということは、どこにでもある (everywhere)ということである。have で言うと
・They had the dangerous energy outside the building and had that energy everywhere in town.
・The dangerous energy went out of the building and went everywhere. go だけでもよい。
・There is (was) the radioactive substance everywhere in that place.
拡散するということは、その場所が、全員にとって危険であるので
・The whole town became dangerous to every one.
『周辺地域への甚大な被害があったことは、記憶に新しい』
被害があるということは、影響があるということなので affect を使うと
・That affected all the areas around Chernobyl.
affect を使わないでもよい。被害があるということは、問題があるということである。problem を使い
・That caused problems in areas around Chernobyl / surrounding areas.
・Because of that, many places near/ around Chernobyl had serious problems.
被害があるということは、良いか悪いかでいうと悪いので、
・Bad things happned to people and places around Chernobyl.
・It was a bad thing for everyone.
・It was really bad for people and the areas around.
damage を使うと、do damage to / cause damage のように使い、
・It (the accident) caused a lot of damage to the surroundind areas.
『記憶に新しい』ということは、最近起きたということで、
・It happned recently.
・We still remember that.
・It didn't happen so many years ago.
記憶に新しい、ということは、裏を返せば、ショッキングで忘れられないということになる。
・The accident was shoking and we cannot forget it. といってもよいだろう。
・How could we forget the incident that happned in Chernobyl, where there was a serious accident at a nuclear power plant. Radioactive substance got out and spread, causing a lot of problems to the people in those areas. という風に続いてもよい。

ほぼhave で言うとすると、
The Soviet Union had Ukraine before. It had Chernobyl there. Chernobyl had a building. They made electricity with dangerous energy. The same energy was used to make the bombs used in Hiroshima and Nagasaki/ dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The building had an accident. They had the dangerous enegy outside the building. People had serious problems.
考えると色々な言い方が考えられる。
この英作のブログで伝えたいことは、言うのが難しい事柄でも、自分の知っている言葉で言うことに挑戦して頂きたいということ。
答えは一つと思っていると、がんじがらめになって、到底自分では英語で言えないと思ってしまうだろうが、ここでご紹介しているように、自分で積極的に考えてみると、言えないと思えるようなことが、意外とシンプルな英語で、相手に伝わる。要は、自分の持っている英語の知識の活用法を知るということである。
我々は、長年学校で英語を習う。学校で、多くの道具を与えられるが、それらの道具の活かし方は、習わない。
自分の持つ道具の価値、使い方を知る。それが英作練習の目的である。
