【英会話】Correlative Conjunctions（相関的な等位接続詞）｜both , either , neither について
この記事では中学校や高校でも習う「相関的な等位接続詞」（英語ではCorrelative Conjunctions）についてご紹介します。よく使用されますが、意味がこんがらがりやすいのでまとめてみたいと思います。
Both
まずは「Both」からです。意味は「両方〜」です。そして常に複数扱いの単語になります。
Both of ~
「Both of」 はよく使われます。後ろに名刺が続く場合は「the one's＋複数名詞」を置きます。
I know both of the teachers . 「私はどちらの先生も知っている。」
Both of them are still young .「彼らのどちらもまだ若い。」
both A and B
A と Bを対等の関係で結びます。
I talk to both my mom and my sister .「母と姉両方に話した」
単体で使う both
Which do you like , apple or orange . 「りんごとみかんどちらが好き？」
I like both . 「どちらとも好き」
どちらも好きという場合はこのように言います。また Both are good .「どちらも良い」と答えることもできます。
否定形の both
このbothを否定分で使うと「両方とも〜というわけではない」という部分否定の意味になります。
I don't eat both apples and bananas . 「りんごとバナナ両方食べないわけじゃない。」
He didn't read both of the books . 「彼はその本のどちらとも読んだというわけではない。」

either
「either」は「どちらか一方の」を意味します。
either of ~
He picked up either of the books . 「彼はこの本のうちのどちらかを選んだ」
either A or B
「either A or B」は「AかBのどちらか一方」という意味になります。
Can he speak either English or Chinese ? 「彼は英語か中国語のどちらかを話せますか？」
You can either come with her or go home . 「あなたは彼女と一緒に来てもいいし、家に帰ってもいいよ。」
単体で使う either
You can eat both apples . 「りんご両方とも食べていいよ。」
Thanks , but I'll have either . 「ありがとう。でも一つだけもらうよ」
neither
「neither」は「both」に対応する否定形となり「（二者のうち）どちらも〜ない」を意味します。
neither of ~
「neither of ~」は「どちらとも〜でない」を意味します。
Neither of my sister can sing . 「私の姉妹はどちらも歌えない。」
Neither of us saw the accident . 「私たちはどちらもその事故が発生したのを見ていなかった」
neither A nor B
よく使われる「neither A nor B」です。意味は「AとBのどちらでもない」です。「either」を使っても表すことができます。
She can speak neither English nor Chinese .
＝ She cannnot speak either English or Chinese .
「彼女は英語と中国語のどちらも話せない。」
I neither smoke nor drink .
＝ I don't either smoke or drink .
「私はタバコも吸わないしお酒も飲まない。」
Me neither / Neither can I
「Me neither」や「Neither can I」は「私も〜ない、私もできない」と返答するときの決まり文句になります。
I can't swim . → Me neither . / Neither can I .
