The moment I saw the splendid stone exterior, I thought I had to visit this building. The store called Rough Draft Bar & Books is located in Kingston which is famous for art like Woodstock, NY. This shop has a bookstore and a cafe. You can even drink the craft beer inside. The atmosphere makes even the familiar books cover special. You can also find children’s books from chapter books to picture books too. My daughter found a book she got into, which was memorable. I also enjoyed checking a variety of cooking books.
If you are interested in food more than books, I recommend going to Kingston Bread + Bar because they are sister companies. Kingston Bread + Bar began in 2017 as Kingston Bread Lab — one guy baking out of his home kitchen for a small group of weekly “subscribers.” When demand increased, KBL moved into the nearby kitchen at Rough Draft Bar & Books. It opened on North Front Street as an all-day bakery with a full food and drink menu.
Kingston, dating to the arrival of the Dutch in 1652, is a vibrant city with rich history and architecture, was the state’s first capital, and a thriving arts community. Please visit the historic city, with restaurants that are among the region’s finest, and local shopping that promises unique finds.

見事な石造りの外観を見た瞬間、このお店絶対に入りたい！と思ったこちらのお店。このお店は、ニューヨーク州の最初の州都、そして隣町のウッドストックと共に、芸術家が集まる所としても知られているキングストンに位置します。店内は本屋とカフェを併設しており、本を読むながらお茶できるスペースがあります。カフェでは、クラフトビール、こだわりのコーヒー、地元のペイストリーを注文できます。このお店に並んでいるだけで、見慣れたブックカバーの本であっても、いつも以上におしゃれな本に思えるほど、とても素敵な空間でした。
クラフトビールをオーダーできる点から判断して、子供の本はあまりないかなと心配していましたが、店内奥に絵本からチャプターブックまで手広く収納されています。娘はここに置いてあったチャプターブックの一つのとりこになって、購入しました。帰路の車の中でもずーっと読み続けているという熱心ぶり。旅の思い出とともに、好きな本に出会えたようで、私もうれしかったです。私は、料理本をチェックしました。新刊から古い本まで、こちらも手広く並べられていたので、本好きさん、カフェ好きさんには一押しです。
後から知ったのですが、こちらの姉妹店でパン屋さんが近所にあるそうです。私は残念ながら今回訪れることはできませんでしたが、個人的にドンピシャな本屋さんだったので、次回はどちらの店舗も訪れたいと思っています。評価は主観が入っているので、高めです。
