グローバルビジネスで役立つ数学(27)損益分岐点を求める(英語版)

Hi, there!

When I stayed in Mexico City, I often went to a park in front of my hotel
on Sundays when I could slack off without working the whole day.

As I stepped into the park, a small boy was constantly hawking around
to sell cotton candies, saying, “Algodon, Cinco pesos (Cotton candy five
pesos).” I had bought his cotton candies several times.

One day he gave me a big smile when I purchased two sweets, one for
me and the other for an elevator girl in my hotel.

――”Gracias, señor.”

He seemingly opened his heart by selling those candies, whereas I could
have spiritual proximity to him by breathing the same air as his. He would
have told his parents the sales achievements proudly on that day.

Alfred Victor Vigny, a French writer, says, “Greatness is the dream of youth
realized in old age.” I wished his dream had come true, and he would devel-
op into a big shot to make his parents happy.

Today, let me evaluate the break-even point by selling cotton candies.

A cotton candy machine costs $500. It costs $20 to make 10 pcs of can-
dies. It sells for $3. Including the cotton candy machine’s price, how many
sweets do you have to sell to break even?

Here is my solution to the problem. Don’t faint just because the answer is
so simple.

\(500 + 2x = 3x\)
\(x = 500\)

I hope you’ll “cotton” with math word problems in this cotton candies cal-
culations.

Stay tuned, and expect to see my next post.

Keep well.
